Extremadura continues its commitment to Free Software and part of its ongoing activities associated with it, the Socialist deputy and secretary of Citizens Network Innovation and Regional Executive of the PSOE, Cesar Ramos, submitted a new proposal for the Promotion of Software Free.
The advent of the Internet is changing "many things and many concepts," as the way we work, how to relate or the products and how they are sold, each time changes are occurring at a faster rate. This is well aware of the Socialist parliamentary group, which will urge the government to further develop regional actions for the implementation of free software in the Regional Administration.
This was announced by the deputy of the Socialist Group, Cesar Ramos, at a press conference, which presented the Proposal for Promotion to defend at the next plenary of the Assembly of Extremadura, through which request the Board to further develop actions to free software implementation in the Regional Administration and a plan for the development of technology companies in the region in developing software based on Linex, for export.
At the beginning of his speech, Ramos recalled that ten years ago Extremadura began to value the option of free software. It was in 2003 with the installation of computers in schools, where we had to decide whether the Board would bet on free software or proprietary software. Finally, we chose the first, allowing savings of thirty million, in addition to independence from suppliers.
Subsequently, this initial bet is moved to other areas of the autonomous community, the health of the public administration of Extremadura, which has allowed, as the Socialist deputy, increase the competitiveness of Extremadura and save financial resources.
This bet - Cesar Ramos added, "We must be allowed to continue having a differentiating competitive element and allowing the development of our companies through the bet from our region," and therefore "is a guarantee for the companies belonging to a community like Extremadura ".
And is that free software is more than a program. It is also a collaborative process, whose main characteristic is that it can be distributed, modified, redistributed, copied and used freely and for free.
So too are the users of the Network, who see the use of free software many advantages and benefits, such as independence, promotes the creation, production and small and medium enterprises easier access, creates new business and has proven which is the basis of a real social policy, facilitates access to ICT for SMEs, invigorates the local market, or maximizing the benefits of public investments.
Ramos further explained that this issue generated a great debate that is at issue today in social networks. That said, asking the network on the use of free software to make this initiative has received more than 60 arguments in favor of its use through Facebook, Twitter, Ning.
But without doubt, the phrase that best defines free software is "not yours or mine, is ours."
